Class time
All library classes for K-5 last 40 minutes long. First through fifth grade has 20 minutes of checkout which immediately follows their library class.
Checkout
Students in kindergarten do not checkout library books. Grades 1-4 checkout one library book. Students in grade 5 can checkout up to two books. All student books are due in one week. Students may renew books up to 3 times.
Library Curriculum
Library lessons for K-5 are based on the library curriculum developed by the D87 Curriculum Leadership Team. The curriculum is updated regularly to reflect the changes in national (American Association of School Libraries – AASL) and state (Association of Illinois School Educators - AISLE) standards. It also incorporates some of the Common Core English Language Arts Standards.
