2024 BJHS Track & Field

We are pleased to welcome you to the Bloomington Junior High Track Family.

As coaches, we LOVE this sport. We all feel it is the best middle school sport, as it allows all student-athletes an opportunity to be involved with a team while improving and excelling at an individual event. The more an athlete works in practice, the more results they see on the track and on the field. We encourage our athletes to try different events to see both what they enjoy participating in, as well as discovering a natural talent.

NEWS - UPDATES

SPRINTERS ONLY - TRYOUTS!!!

This season we have had tremendous interest in track and field!! It is AMAZING, but also comes with the realization that we will need to divide the Sprint team into 2 separate teams. We will hold tryout-time trials on Saturday March 9th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the track.

The Sprint coaches will then divide the athletes into 2 teams. Team A and Team B and post the list later in the week.

Team A will practice daily from 2:45-5:30.

Team B will have a limited practice schedule and online workouts to follow to improve their skills at home. Students can move between the two teams and additional time trials will be held.

Coaches will talk more tomorrow with the Sprint Team. Coach Slaw and Coach Shanika will answer all of their questions. I will post another message tomorrow night with additional details.

POLE VAULT - TRYOUTS!!!

This season we have had an amazing opportunity for Pole Vaulters.

Pole Vault Clinic March 3-7

Students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with trainers to explore pole vault, equipment, get one-on-one training and test out Pole Vault. The trainers will post the Pole Vault Roster later next week. Come out, explore, learn and try to see if Pole Vault is something you may be interested in.

Calendars

Stay up-to-date with practice and meet schedules. The schedule is subject to change based on Illinois Weather or we made add additional meets throughout the season. We will also send updates through Remind App by 2:00 PM of any changes.

Events

We encourage our athletes to try different events to see both what they enjoy participating in, as well as discovering a natural talent.

Track athletes may compete in up to three events at a meet. Of the three chosen events athletes may NOT be in three “individual” running events.  Other than that, athletes may be in any combination of events that they (and the coaches) decide upon. Coaches have the final decision on who participates in each event.
