Certified Nurse Assistant and Advanced CNA

What will my classes be like?
During class you will learn the necessary requirements it takes to obtain your Certified Nursing Assistant State Certification. You will also receive a unique opportunity to apply your classroom training at a clinical site two days a week, working hands-on with patients.
Certified Nurse Assistant
Upon successful completion of this course; students are eligible to take the State Certification for Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA). Classroom instruction will include fundamental healthcare principles, basic patient care; including vital signs, height and weight, transferring residents, dressing and feeding residents, bathing, and basic aseptic procedures. Students will participate in clinical two days weekly from October to April at nursing homes. Attendance is essential due to the number of state-mandated hours.
Students will be CPR and HIPAA certified.
This class is only offered for juniors and seniors in high school.

*Math, reading, spelling, and communication skills are necessary.

Advanced CNA
Prerequisite:
Successful completion of the Nurse Assistant program along with the approval of Nurse Assistant Instructors, and successful attainment of CNA Certification.
Students who have successfully attained the CNA certification, have at least a B average, and who are in the Top 15 of the class may have the opportunity to enroll in Advanced CNA. Students will benefit from speakers within the industry, enhance their technical skill development through internships, and develop workplace skills required in the health care profession. Student internships include, but are not limited to, Millennium Pain Center, OSF Surgi-Center, Illinois Cancer Care, St. Joseph Hospital, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, and various doctor’s offices and clinics.

We are very excited to announce that the Bloomington Area Career Center has partnered with two new hospitals for the 2016-17 year. Our Advanced CNA students will now have the opportunity to intern at John Warner Hospital in Clinton and Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale. This provides new opportunities and continues growth in our program.
