Dear BJHS Families, We wanted to provide you with an update on the status of the cooling system at BJHS. Our dedicated maintenance staff has been working tirelessly to secure solutions. We have located a replacement chiller that should be on site late in the afternoon today. In light of these circumstances, and the forecasted temperatures for tomorrow, we have made the decision to continue with remote learning for Wednesday to allow for installation and testing. This means that students will not attend school in person Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023. We understand the importance of having students and staff back in the building as soon as possible. However, that decision will be dependent on the progress of the repairs and the prevailing outside heat conditions. We will send additional communications home regarding the work that your students can complete during their remote learning day. Please be on the lookout for these materials and instructions. As we navigate through this period of extreme heat, we want to emphasize the importance of staying cool and hydrated, the well-being of our BJHS students and staff is of utmost importance to us. We appreciate your support and understanding as we work to address these challenges and create a safe and comfortable learning environment for our students and staff. Nuestro equipo de mantenimiento ha estado trabajando sin descanso para encontrar una solución segura. Hemos encontrado un reemplazo que proporcionara enfriamiento y que será colocada el día de hoy por la tarde. Due to the excessive heat and the cooling system not sufficiently cooling the building, BJHS will have a remote learning day on Tuesday, August 22. Updates will be posted as they come available.

👨‍🍳🧀🍦🍨👏 Top Chef hits BJHS! The Knights made cottage cheese ice cream (that’s right, ice cream from cottage cheese!) and had a taste test comparing store-bought ice cream and their own creations. Students and staff had a great time sampling the goods- such a delicious way to finish the “Livin’ Your Best Life” summer program at BJHS! 🤤👌 👨‍🍳🧀🍦🍨👏 ¡Top Chef llega a BJHS! Los Caballeros hicieron helado de requesón (¡Así es, helado de requesón!) y tuvieron una prueba de sabor comparando el helado comprado en la tienda y sus propias creaciones. D87 is well into the awards season and we're so excited to see our students being recognized for their hard work! BHS held senior awards night, and a signing day ceremony while BJHS held their awards night for all students- it's been a busy awards season for sure! Did you know that BJHS, the Illinois Art Station, and NCC Green partnered up to create a coloring page contest? The theme: Protecting our Earth! The winning designs received gift cards to the Illinois Art Station and will be covers for coloring books to be used during BJHS roundtables next year (all entries will be featured in the book- so everyone is a winner!). Congrats to Eliana Seckler (1st place), Oliver Cawthon (2nd Place), Tamea Phillips (3rd Place), and Maddy Corning (3rd Place) (not pictured)! Go Knights! ¿Sabía que BJHS, Illinois Art Station y NCC Green se asociaron para crear un concurso de páginas para colorear? El tema: ¡Protegiendo nuestra Tierra!
