Welcome to the Safety Protocols and Crisis Procedures page for District 87. We understand the importance of being prepared and informed during times of crisis, and the safety of District 87 students and staff is our top priority. Students enter our buildings every day not only with the expectation to learn but also to be kept safe. This is an expectation we do not take lightly.
We focus on many preventative measures to keep our students and staff safe. We have crisis plans in place, our students regularly practice safety drills, we have 3 full-time school resource officers, and tight building security in place as some of our preventive measures. Our goal is to be preventative, but a crisis can always occur and we want to make sure we are ready and able to handle any crisis if it should occur.
District 87 is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. To ensure a consistent and effective response to any emergency situation, we have adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) from the I Love You Guys Foundation.
The SRP is a proven safety protocol used by thousands of schools across the United States. It provides clear, concise instructions for a range of emergency scenarios, enabling our district to act swiftly and efficiently to protect everyone on our campuses.
Our team is trained in this protocol, and we regularly conduct drills to ensure that our response is second nature should an actual emergency arise. Parents, students, and community members can have peace of mind knowing that District 87 is aligned with national safety standards and is dedicated to maintaining a secure learning environment.
For more information on the Standard Response Protocol, please visit I Love You Guys Foundation website.
Our School Emergency Info Guide for Families has important information on what to do in case of an emergency.
Together, we create a safe place for education to thrive.
Below are terms from the SRP that District 87 will use if a crisis situation occurs in any of our buildings and their meanings, and ways we will communicate to families should a crisis situation occur. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the terminology outlined below to ensure the safety and well-being of our entire school community.
All the above-mentioned crisis procedures are made known to students and they will practice the different procedures by having drills throughout the school year.
We understand that emergencies can be stressful, but with proper preparation, communication, and adherence to the outlined procedures and guidelines, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone within our school district. It is our priority to keep the lines of communication open and to provide you with the necessary information to navigate any crisis confidently.
