Hall of Fame & Historic Moment Alert! 🎉 Let's take a moment to rewind to the 2000s, where the journey began with a dynamic duo at BHS - Nicole Myers dancing under the guidance of the talented Crystal Curry, now the admin assistant to the D87 Athletic Director. Fast forward to today, and we're celebrating a milestone! 🏆💫 Nicole Myers has just been inducted into the Illinois Drill Team Association Hall of Fame, joining her former coach, Crystal, who received this prestigious honor back in 2009. 📘✨ Special Author Visit at Sheridan: Natasha Tarpley! ✍️🎉 The Sheridan Sharks swam into an ocean of storytelling and self-love with a special visit from author Natasha Tarpley! 🦈 First Mrs. Tarpley joined the Confidently Curly group at Sheridan, a club that focuses on teaching black and brown girls how to care for and love their hair 🌀 She shared her story "I Love My Hair" and inspired the girls to write about the beauty of their hair, using cardstock designed by Sheridan’s very own art teacher, Mrs. Baker.🤩 The literary waves continued to make a splash during Sheridan's "Sleep Over Storytime" evening. 🌜 Families were treated to activities, storytelling, and a special Q&A with Mrs. Tarpley. 🌟 Divine 9 Highlight 🌟 Meet Malik Jones, not only a standout 7th-grade math teacher at BJHS, but also a beacon of service and leadership in his Iota Phi Theta fraternity. 📚✨ 🔹 Mr. Jones has been a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity for 28 years. His journey began at Illinois State University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees and also started on a path of service and brotherhood with his fraternity while there. One of his favorite memories is his initiation night. Mr. Jones spent in service, during the "Sleep out for the Homeless" project on the ISU quad - what an awesome way to begin his brotherhood with the Iota Phi Theta! Active in community service, Mr. Jones and his fraternity regularly team up with Divine 9 groups to feed the needy and participate in St. Jude walkathons. They also keep the Bloomington Housing Authority spick and span. 🍽️🧹 🤝🏆As Vice Polaris of his chapter, Mr. Jones leads with intent and inspires change. Here's to Mr. Jones, shaping minds in the classroom and making a difference in the community! They crafted Valentine's Day boxes, with each student sharing a card or treat with their roundtable family – spreading smiles all around. 💌🍭 Then the roundtables of Mr. Jones and Ms. Knarr added an extra dose of fun with a fun game of Valentine's Day Bingo! They mailed Valentines and letters about our D87 school & community to 22 schools around the country. With every Valentine and letter they receive back, they are learning about different schools and communities - and now they have a wish list of places to visit! 🗺️😊 📭 So far they received 16 out of 22 Valentines! Just 6 more to complete their Valentine's collection.
