🌊🏊The Sheridan Swim School is now in session!🌊🏊 Some of our sharks have the opportunity to take to the water and learn to swim at the YMCA every Monday for the next 6 weeks. Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Sheridan School, all our swimming sharks have been provided with swimsuits, goggles, swim caps, and a handy bag to carry it all in! 🩱🥽🧢🎒 The looks of pure joy as the kiddos entered the water for their first lesson was priceless! 📣🎺 It may have been a cold, dreary wet day this past Saturday, but that didn't faze our incredible BHS Marching Raiders at the 2023 Illinois Marching Band Championships! They marched away with not one, not two, but an absolutely impressive THREE trophies! 🏆🏆🏆 In Class 4A, our talented Marching Raiders took the top spot in Music and Visual,. 🎶 🏅 And to top it all off, they seized first in Class- true champions! 🥇 We couldn't be prouder of our amazing Marching Raiders for their incredible achievements. This morning Edwin "Sarge" Sargent, Executive Director at The Western Avenue Community Center, was a guest speaker in the African American History class at BHS. Sarge has been a mentor in D87 for a long time, a former volleyball coach, and has also worked with D87 through Project Oz. During his visit today, Sarge engaged juniors and seniors in a thought-provoking discussion about future job opportunities, mental health, and the value of their "intellectual capital" and shared his powerful spoken word poetry with the students. The BHS Counselors will be hosting representatives from Heartland Community College on Thursday, October 5th at 5:30 pm during our Parent-Teacher Conferences. Come learn about the benefits of dual credit and how your student becomes eligible for this opportunity! What is dual credit? BHS partners with Heartland Community College to offer courses where students can earn college and high school credit simultaneously. These courses are taught in our building by our staff. The best part is that all of our dual credit courses are free! Please have your student bring their Chromebook or another device so we can complete the first step of the enrollment process. ¡Llamando a todas las familias de freshmen, sophomore y juniors! ¿Quieres aprender acerca de las clases gratuitas a nivel universitario disponibles para tu estudiante? It may have been 80 degrees, but fall was in the air at Stevenson's Fall Festival 🍂🎃🌽🎈🍁. Snow cones, popcorn, face painting, bouncy houses, and decorated pumpkins for auction were some of the activities our Tigers enjoyed- not to mention a dunk tank, featuring Stevenson Staff! 🍧🍿😋💦 Puede que estemos a 80 grados, pero el otoño estuvo presente en el Festival de Otoño de la Escuela Stevenson🍂🎃🌽🎈🍁. Conos de helado, palomitas, diseños con pintura en el rostro, juegos inflables y calabazas decoradas en subasta fueron algunas de las divertidas actividades que nuestros Tigres disfrutaron, ¡sin mencionar un tanque de agua presentado por el personal!🍧🍿😋💦
