☀️🍂 Today was a picture-perfect fall day- the sun was shining and the warm weather made it ideal for our first-grade Oakland Owls to go on a fun-filled field trip to Rader Farms! 🌻🦉 Our Owls had a blast petting the farm animals, discovering all about pumpkins (and gourds!), learning about bees, and taking a tram ride through the pumpkin patch! 🎃🐝 With colder, wet weather coming our way, we are glad that our Owls got to spend this beautiful day outside, learning and having fun (because that's what it is all about!)! 🤗 🦉 #RaderFarms #FieldTripFun #WeAreD87

This morning Edwin "Sarge" Sargent, Executive Director at The Western Avenue Community Center, was a guest speaker in the African American History class at BHS. Sarge has been a mentor in D87 for a long time, a former volleyball coach, and has also worked with D87 through Project Oz.
During his visit today, Sarge engaged juniors and seniors in a thought-provoking discussion about future job opportunities, mental health, and the value of their "intellectual capital" and shared his powerful spoken word poetry with the students.

The BHS Counselors will be hosting representatives from Heartland Community College on Thursday, October 5th at 5:30 pm during our Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Come learn about the benefits of dual credit and how your student becomes eligible for this opportunity!
What is dual credit? BHS partners with Heartland Community College to offer courses where students can earn college and high school credit simultaneously. These courses are taught in our building by our staff. The best part is that all of our dual credit courses are free!
Please have your student bring their Chromebook or another device so we can complete the first step of the enrollment process.
